if we all carry ourselves with the dignity of Ellen Barshevsky.

You didn't think I would skip this one, did you? Ellen herself may not have wayed in on this past weekend's discussion about discussion, but a number of loyal fans brought her in in spirit. Entirely fitting, say I. Firstly, while many things may have changed on Corporette over the years, Ellen assuredly has not. Secondly, I agree that she is unmatched if you're looking for a bright, cheery tone and consistent life goals (for looseing weight and getting pregnant, if not in her career).

I was a bit surprised to see such support from cbackson, who is an unerringly real person. All the more welcome, though!

Kelley B :
I think the site is fine. And I also really like that people are humble. And the best is Ellen Barshevsky, who always says things with a smile, even though she has issues with her boss, men and living in NY City.
We all need to take a step back and not get so stuck on ourselves. It probably would be a good thing if we all carry ourselves with the dignity of Ellen Barshevsky. Where is she when we need her views on this thread?
  • I love Ellen. She is very down to earth and not afraid to share her feelings. I hope she finds a husband soon. She probably will be a great mom. I’d set her up with my brother but he’s too much of a player for her.
cbackson :
It’s funny, but in a weird way I truly do feel like Ellen is the soul of this site. For all of her…Ellen-ness, in the end, she’s just a young woman trying to find career success and a guy who loves her for her (even with her ample tuchus!). Ellen doesn’t take disrespect from men, she cares about her community, and she has real, meaningful friendships with her female friends. IDK, I kind of feel like I know her…even though she isn’t real.
Here’s to you, Ellen Barshevsky.
  • I second the motion. Ellen is clearly a gem, and she is our gem. As far as I can tell, she is not posting on the ABA bulletin board any more — instead, she has grown up from a brash law student into a young lady who is achieving fame and fortune in her own small world of workers compensation, and keeping us up to speed with her personal life here, rather than with the ABA. I agree she should find a man, have children and return to the life of her childhood, being like her own mom baking cookies and cakes, and slipping them to her own issue much like her mom does for her. Go Ellen!
  • Pandoraphile :
I third the motion! Ellen is a great distraction from work because many of us have the same kind of jerks in our office. Personally, I also have a manager who is quirky, and a co-worker with digestive issues that results in a host of excess gas within the office (though no bathroom/toilet in the center of the office that he sits in all day). And needless to say, we all have had issues with our admin assistants (a/k/a secretaries) who can be very helpful at times and very useless at others.
So I look forward to Ellen’s daily posts, even if Corporette does not have a spell-check function for her! Keep up the great work, Ellen!!!!!!!!!

through the SNOW with my Fitbit

Thank's, Nora. Nora was hitting it pretty hard on ELLENWatch today as well.

Are we actually thinking about meeting Harold at Crumb's this weekend? Baked goods with this guy were never a good idea before! And I thought he'd been disqualified, as they say, six ways from Sunday anyhow. Young, bald, unemployed, heedless, related to her boss...I'd say you were right the first (and third) times, Ellen. There must be other men in New York. Indeed I think you know a few of them, some offering to whisk you away to distant land's!

Fooey! I do not think I would wear this, even in the winter when I have to walk through the SNOW with my Fitbit. I agree this will keep my face warm, but do NOT think it look’s that nice. I do NOT want to be thought of as a terorist. DOUBEL FOOEY! Today’s pick’s are a littel unusual, Kat. I would have prefered a NICE HERMES scarf or something like that if you want to stay warm.
BTW, Harold showed up today in the office, and he could use this. He has very littel hair on the top of his head, like the manageing partner, but he is groweing a beard with sideburn’s. It almost look’s like his head is upside down. I told that to Frank and he agreed. Harold want’s to meet me at Crumbs over the weekend. I said Mabye. Madeline got caught today in the toilet. The lock broke with her inside so we had to call the building JANITOR’s to get her out of there. I can’t wait until we MOVE, but we have no place to go! There are some new teck guy’s who moved in next door and they are so wierd! The guy’s look into our glass window to stare at us. I think they have never seen peeople who are NOT computer nerd’s! FOOEY on nerd’s! FOOEY!

This is an April fool’s joke. Don’t be too serious today. Men will be there for you. None are unique; in fact as my mom says, turn ‘em upside down and all men look alike. Trust me on this one.

[Tenley seek's advice]

Probably true, tesyaa. Thanks for calling this to my attention. I've seen a few other likely Ellen affiliates overusing the garden metaphor, and in this case it even looks like the alias could be referring to Alan. He was, after all, by some reports a rather lackluster lover, and he has indeed been trying to get back in touch this spring (via phone, his mom, and Corporette).

I wonder if its a sign of Spring here in the Northeast?
A guy I used to date last Spring called me last week looking to tend my lady garden. It’s been a long, cold winter and now that the frost is over, I would appreciate a little tilling, but I am not sure I want him doing the gardeining again, as he proved useless when it came last year to the harvest season. Any ideas, ladies?

[Vera return's]

Y'all already know that Vera is one of our working aliases. Here she is (a) wondering if she needs to be worried about the Ukraine--perhaps her cousins' names rhyme with Igor and Oleg?

And also (b) proposing some bizarre work changeup in which everybody's manageing partners would get shocked into submission.

Perhaps Vera can lend Ellen some of her imagination and initiative. Our main storyline is where nothing like this could ever even be conceived.

I heard about this. Is this something we should be concerned about? I have a cousin from the Ukraine.

RAWRR! I am also so sick of my job and so need to make a break.
Wouldn’t it be totally awesome if everyone quit their jobs on the same day, then just moved one job to the left or right the next day? We can only hope that our horrible bosses would lose their cookies (which they deserve to do) and respect us.
But they wouldn’t, so all I can do is RAWRR!!!!

[Yanoula #2]

Ellen may have left Alan in the du'st long ago, but some of her alter egos are still slumming. Another reason she's such a shining example to other fictional phantasms, I suppose.

I would not put up with this. There is no way any of these hot women would even look at my boyfriend let alone sleep with him, so why should I be compared to them. The day I get Justin Timberlake to date me is the day I say Sayanara to my fat and sloppy boyfriend!

[Head's Up: Yanoula]

This wasn't her first appearance, but I'll try to be better from now on about it. Notice the completely useless content of Yanoula's reply (OP is asking about how to demand her money back, not whether she should do so), as well as her mockery of Corporette trends--this time "rawr."

You know what it is, back in the building...

Legal question t/j
I signed a mutual release to get out of a condo purchase that was going on too long. It was signed on December 11 and I do not have my funds yet. Properties and forms signed in Ontario, if that makes a difference. Emails and telephone calls to builder office and law office have been ignored. They’re both big businesses I do not expect them to disappear but what is a reasonable length if time to get back my (big to me) $50,000?

the lousey thing’s you said are goieng on

In a later post, Ellen alerted me/us that this had gone up late over the weekend. Thank's! Not much new here except from alter-ego Vera. In this instance she decided to share something about her mother's fall from virtue. Indeed, because this was her mom I wonder if Vera herself was the product of this neighborhood tryst? The Sunshine Girls may be abel to fill in the blanks on that...

This is kind of what I think. I had this situeation with Alan, but we were NOT married. He realized all of a sudden once he lost his job that he could JUST move in with me and let me suport him and his drinkeing and all he had to do is have sex with me and that would make it all better. But I am alot smarter then that. I knew that I could NOT go on with a drunk, even if onley as a boyfreind, and I CERTAINLEY could NEVER marry a drunk.
So it was easier for me to show him the door, even tho I am a soft person at heart. I knew that I could never live with a person who wanted ME to do all the work, espeacialy after we had kid’s. I should bear the children, do the work, shoppeing and pay all of the bills? FOOEY on that! That is where you are, and I did NOT read anything that even HINTS and the sex makeing up for the rest of the lousey thing’s you said are goieng on. So I say JUST SAY FOOEY AND MOVE ON!
No one will be upset if you do that. The alternative is that you go for 10 more years with a guy who may also wind up cheateing on you b/c you will be out workeing all day, and there will be other women willing to give him sex b/c you are not. Do not go there. Cut your losse’s and RUN if the doosh does not get a job within a month. Show him my advise and tell him that this is the ROUTE your goieng to take, and take it. YAY!!!!!!
  • Men who rely on women for support and have all day off to lounge will not hesitate to poke a local woman in need of a mans attention. This is what happened to my mom.

[Alma was dis'sed on NYE]

I had to catch this one myself--particularly ironic given that Alma's purported coworkers are among my most loyal followers here. I like how the trolliness only really emerged after Dulcinea suggested the post was valuable whether real or not. It was as if Alma needed to reassert her own ridiculousness. (Though the suggestion from Anonymous helped greatly as well). If Alma (last name Federer, sometimes) is a new name to you, see this clearinghouse on her and her relationship to Ellen.

Alma's "boyfriend," who sounded a bit carnally motivated even in better times, is likely one of the partners at S&S Associates. We already know how this has ended every other time, but the Hive's support is unconditional. Hope you rang it in single, Alma! I say either start looking for love outside the office, or change jobs for a new trove of older, rich marrieds who don't know you yet.

I am sitting here trying to think why my boyfriend does not want to meet me for a romantic evening. He says he is “exhausted” but has not worked in 6 months and has not seen me for 3 weeks. Any ideas on how to cope with this situation? After all shouldn’t he be with me for new years eve?

------------------------

    • Dulcinea :
This is exactly what I was trying to figure out how to articulate. Although, a post below suggests to me that some people think Alma is a troll, even if she is, I think this advice could be helpful for others in similar situations.
      • My boyfriend must be cheating because he only has come around when he wants sex. And that has not been for weeks now.
    • Anonymous :
      Summer’s Eve perhaps?
  • “Alma” is back. Y’all are very nice to offer her advice.

I will NOT compremize

Though heckled by Vinnie, Ellen once again make's her position clear. Anyone else on Corporette who has a brother, take heed.

Yay! Open thread’s! I love Open Thread’s! And the 3 day weekend, tho I am comeing into work to catch up on by billeing’s so that I can get my $10,000 bonus dad negoeatied for me!
As for the OP I am not sure of your billeing rate, but it sound’s to compleicated to bill at $100-150 hour. The manageing partner bill’s me out at $650/hour, and then he put’s his own ADDER on my bill for his review, which is at $1000 per hour, so every hour we BOTH bill a cleint, the firm make’s $1,650/hour! YAY! But some times, the cleint ask’s me what the manageing partner is doing b/c they NEVER see or hear anything about or FROM him. I tell him he MUST audit my work per NYSBA rule’s, tho I am not sure if there even is a NYSBA rule on this (he said there was, so that is what I tell them) Once in a while, they call him, and he expelain’s it to them, and then bills them for $1000 to expelain it to them.
Roberta was the first to question him, but she stopped b/c she realy like’s me and my work, tho she is NOT crazy about the manageing partner. I am goieng with Myrna to see a freind of her’s this weekend in the Hamton’s. We are stayeing at his place, but I was told to bring warm clotheing b/c it is on the beach and there is not good heateing out there. FOOEY! I do NOT want to freeze my tuchus off out there, but Myrna say’s we will be fine.
Dad called to tell me I should be getting busy with Fred already b/c Ed called and wondered why I have no plan’s with Fred yet. I told dad that I was NOT sure about Fred b/c he will make me work after I have a baby. He said the onley one haveing a baby now is Rosa (#3) and I have NOT even got out of the starteing gate with #1 and I am OLDER then her. I said FOOEY b/c I am a professional, who COULD have been a housewife, but I never found a guy who was SMART enough for me. He said that at THIS POINT, any guy willeing to marry me and put up with me should be good enough. I think he was the one who told ED that. FOOEY! I will NOT compremize on a guy. I know I could get alot of guys, but they all just want to have sex with me, burp, and roll over to sleep. DOUBEL FOOEY ON THAT!!! I need a guy who will respect me and who is smart, and who earns alot of money and who will NOT just want sex and to burp and roll over in bed. I had that with Alan. TRIPEL FOOEY!
Can the HIVE find me a DECENT man? I will consider any reaseaonable offer. HELP!!!!!

down to size 0, even with a tuchus

Ellen's maternal grandmother identified for the first time. Welcome, Bubba Sadie, though perhaps posthumously (?)

Below note that the Sunshine Girls are eager to do unpaid research for their internet icon. Yet she doesn't even have time to give them instruction's? Ah well...something tells me they're going to call it even in the end anyway (due to being the same person).

I personaly am not the best host for a big cooking event. That is why I usueally defer to mom, and invite my freind’s over to mom&dad for holiday’s b/c mom is a great cook. In fact, that is why Dad say’s he married mom. Acording to mom, dad was a skinny littel wretch who needed more then a GOOD meal, and she (and her mom, Bubba Sadie) fed him alot of food when he was home on leave from the miliatary. So when he had to go back on active duty and eat miliatary food, Dad was NOT a happy dude. So the first thing dad did, (all according to MOM) when he was discharged was to go to Bubba Sadie and tell her that if she could guarantey that Mom would be abel to cook like her, that dad would MARRY mom and insure she would NEVER have to work again.
So Bubba Sadie got mom all taught on fine cuisne and when Dad got home from his first civilan assignment in DC, mom cooked him a great meal (which Bubba Sadie helped behind the scene), and dad was HOOKED! YAY MOM! (and I am the PRODUCT OF ALL THAT! DOUBEL YAY!
Now it is over 35 year’s later and dad is still eateing great, tho he blame’s the cookeing for mom’s large tuchus. Dad also is not the skinniest, but he work’s out all the time and pride’s himself in being in better shape then he was in the miliatary! For some reason, I inherited mom’s tuchus, and dad is alway’s telling me that I need to exercise to get rid of my tuchus, but I am now at size 2, and hopeing to get down to size 0, even with a tuchus!
So I will need to learn cookeing, if I am to attract a guy like dad, but I do NOT want to have to do both cookeing and workeing if I get MARRIED. I am wondering if FRED will realy want me to do both! FOOEY if he does! I will have to talk to mom and dad about FRED. YAY!
  • Ellen, we are trying to figure out your tax issue, but need more data on the precise name of the tax law you must research. Can you give us a cite or a full name? There have been numerous IRS pronouncements of late and we don’t want to confuse you or your client. Congratulations on your new and improved (slimmer) tuchus!

[SSG2 having a sane moment]

I just can't see a Sunshine Girl comment on Corporette without noteing it here--it doesn't feel right. And yet there's actually nothing too weird about this advice. Nothing too substantive either, but.

I'm actually kind of proud of these alleged jaded spinsters for encouraging optimism and risk among the younger gals. They really don't deserve any bum rap from lower associate rank's and/or old married partners.

The key is not to presume anything and just “lean in”. The fact that you are younger should not be viewed as a liability. Many older men and women are happy to connect with younger peers. As long as you are up front and professional, do not think it is out of bounds to reach out to them. I am sure they will appreciate your efforts. And good luck to you!

[The Sunshine Girls go Out to Dinner]

Sometime's I think I'm being tested.

SSG, would you be more forthcoming here about this outing? 15-18 people is alot; did you allow men to join you? Are you expecting Ellen or Myrna and Sam, post-work? Let me know how this goe's.

Does anyone have a good recommendation for a mid-priced eclectic restaurant in mid-town Manhattan where 15-18 people are able to order off the menu and still get in and out within 90 minutes (with dessert and coffee) We do not want to go for the standard 3 choice bland menu of chicken, fish or meat alternatives, but do not want to have to sit and wait F O R E V E R!
  • Anonymous :
I think your ask is pretty much impossible with regards to the time constraint + large group + eclectic.
  • Is this for something like a pre-theater dinner? Would the group go for Mexican? Toloache on 50th might work.

have some troubel articuleating all of this stuff

So Dad's mysterious special assignment is in Langley. I'd love to say there's no way he's CIA material, but then he has almost every other prestigious American institution fooled, so no telling. If it is indeed some national security matter, we will know by the time Ellen posts on Monday. She'll either transcribe reams of state secrets or make GRATE show about how she can't share any details of her weekend with the hive.

Yay! Fruegel Friday’s! I love Fruegel Friday’s and this fruegel blazer from H&M!!! I can go there at lunch if I go early to order it b/f my dad stop’s by in his humuoungous SUV to pick me up! I am all packed and ready to go with him on his special assignment. We are headeing first to Princeton University, where he must talk to a MENTEE who is goeing to start working where Dad used to work next year, and then we are headeing right to Langeley, which is suposedley near DC (I never heard of it) where we spend the weekend! YAY!
Dad will NOT discuss specific busness, but he will tell me alot more about the ideas he put in his PDF report to the manageing partner, and give me a few “tips” on how to aproach the manageing partner about sweeteneing the partnership “POT” for me. I love this concept but have some troubel articuleating all of this stuff to the manageing partner with a straight face b/c I know that he will know that Dad has been coacheing me!
Anyway, I lost 1 pound with my fitbit, so that is good, but I need 7 more b/f I will let Sam see my tuchus. Dad has now started pusheing me to have HIM meet Sam (Dad spent some time in London years ago), so he has some thing’s in common with Sam. Dad wants Sam to marry me so Dad can buy a house in North Carolina. But if Sam is a nose picker, he will NOT be the one. I hope dad does NOT spend the whole week brow-beateing me into why I am NOT married already, like Rosa, or have childeren, like Rosa, or have a big house in Chapaqua like Rosa, etec etec, etec…..
So anyway, if I don’t get to post much this afternoon and next week, it’s b/c I will ONLEY have my Iphone with me and it is dificult to do much with that. Mabye if Dad will let me use his MacBook Pro, I can, but he has alot of stuff on there he will NOT want to let me see. FOOEY! All the best to the HIVE! YAY!!!!
Ellen if Sam has enough money, you can hire someone to clean up after him in the spacious home he will purchase as the marital abode. Vegans eat inexpensively, and the gluten issue will pass. Marry him soon before some cutey will dazzle him with her wares, which accounts for many of the “unplanned” pregnancies over the Summer, traceable to the Hamptons–or Jackson Hole in the winter, where they are more than willing to “warm a guy up” after a day on the slopes.
Trust me, once he’s had you a few times, he’ll move on unless you’ve married him. All I-bankers are alike. They head right for home plate, but you make sure he circles the bases first.
